Any Day Ski Club started as a chairlift conversation.
We were riding up for our second run. There was a thaw the day before and an overnight freeze that made the snow bulletproof; but the sun was out and we were getting to ski.
Trevor said, "Any day skiing is a good day" and right there, Any Day Ski Club was born.
The first thing you learn meeting Trevor is how much he loves skiing and the outdoors. It's genetic. He grew up on a farm in Hurley, NY, in a family that has skied for as long as anyone can remember. His parents taught him at Belleayre, 200 yards away from where his grandparents skied at Highmount. The stories of who skied where, when, and the conditions were and still are the stories told around the table. When winter meant the end of farm season, it marked the beginning of ski season. And new stories to tell.
Molly grew up skiing at Dry Hill, in Watertown, NY, with three hundred feet of vertical, seven trails, and lake effect snow off Lake Ontario. Watertown winters meant night skiing under the lights in well below zero temperatures, and a lodge built around a big fireplace cone you could thaw out next to between runs with some cheese fries. It was the first place she ever skied, and it's still the place she thinks about when someone asks her why she loves the sport.
Skiing is also how we met. Through a mutual friend, in a room full of generations of skiers gathered for a holiday party at Belleayre Mountain. We're a little biased, but it's another example of the kind of thing skiing communities quietly do for the people who show up to them.
We started Any Day Ski Club to build a community for skiers who care about the same things we do: the average days, the small hills, the grilling in the parking lot, and the people. The skiing ideals and stories that get passed down, rather than marketed. Welcome to the club, we’re glad you're here.
